Communications & Outreach
The California High-Speed Rail Authority’s Office of Communications serves as liaison between the high-speed rail program and the public. The Office provides information about high-speed rail through various avenues including public forums, the media, online and social media. The Office of Communications is also responsible for the distribution and display of printed and online materials and media. The Office of Communications is committed to meeting the Authority’s goals of informing, educating and engaging the public about the California high-speed rail program. It is a top priority for the Authority to have positive, productive and working relationships with the public, which helps support the Authority’s goals of openness, transparency and strong community partnerships.

NEWS RELEASE: $25 Million in Federal Funding Awarded to Advance High-Speed Rail in California
SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Today, the California High-Speed Rail Authority (Authority) was notified that it has been awarded $25 million in federal grant funding to advance the project beyond the 119-miles under construction and into downtown Merced. This grant was awarded through the Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity (RAISE) discretionary grant program, and $25 million is the maximum grant award.

PHOTO RELEASE: High-Speed Rail Reaches Construction Milestone in Kern County
KERN COUNTY, Calif. – Today, the California High-Speed Rail Authority, in collaboration with design-build contractor California Rail Builders, reached a historic milestone as the final pre-cast girders were placed on Construction Package 4. With this placement, all structures along the 22-mile stretch of high-speed rail between just north of the Tulare/Kern county line and Poplar Avenue south of the city of Wasco are now in construction.

SAN JOSE, Calif. – The California High-Speed Rail Authority (Authority) Board of Directors today certified the Final Environmental Impact Report/Environmental Impact Statement (EIR/EIS) and approved the approximately 90-mile San Jose to Merced project section in Northern California. This action completes the environmental clearance for nearly 400 miles of the high-speed rail project’s 500-mile Phase 1 alignment from San Francisco to Los Angeles/Anaheim – including a contiguous stretch between Merced and Palmdale plus January’s clearance of the Burbank to Los Angeles section.

NEWS RELEASE: $3 Million Grant Awarded to Study Pacheco Pass Wildlife Overcrossing Near Future High-Speed Rail Line
SAN JOSE, Calif. – The California High-Speed Rail Authority (Authority) and the Santa Clara Valley Habitat Agency, along with partners from Caltrans, the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) and Pathways for Wildlife, are applauding the award of a $3.125 million grant to continue efforts to protect wildlife movement in Northern California. The California Wildlife Conservation Board grant will fund the planning, design, environmental review and permitting of a proposed wildlife overcrossing spanning State Route 152, near the San Jose to Merced high-speed rail project section.

The I Will Ride Mission & Vision
I Will Ride is a student outreach program at the California High-Speed Rail Authority dedicated to connecting students to information and career opportunities on the nation’s first high-speed rail system currently under construction.
As passenger rail expands in the United States to meet mobility needs and improve air quality, the vision of the I Will Ride program is to educate, engage and inspire the next generation of professionals that will design, build and operate California’s high-speed rail system and other high-speed rail projects.

About the High-Speed Rail Program
This is a quick snapshot of the overall program and how it will transform mobility, spur economic growth, create a cleaner environment, and preserve agricultural lands and natural habitats.
The California High-Speed Rail Authority receives funding from federal and state sources which is being used to fund construction, environmental planning and other early work.
Keeping High-Speed Rail Moving
High-speed rail operations will require five different facility types: Maintenance of Way (MOW) facilities, Light Maintenance Facilities (LMF), a Heavy Maintenance Facility (HMF), an Operations Control Center, and operations management headquarters.
High-Speed, High-Capacity Transportation
Despite planned investments in airports and highways, California is facing a transportation capacity crisis. To keep pace, California must expand its transportation capacity to improve mobility.
In preparation for the procurement of the initial trainsets, California High-Speed Rail is developing concepts for the layout and interiors of the cars that will shape an iconic design and set new standards for rail travel on the first true American high-speed train service.

High-Speed Rail in the Central Valley
High-speed rail is already happening in the Central Valley, with construction now spanning 119 miles across Madera, Fresno, Kings, Tulare and Kern counties.
Merced to Bakersfield Line: Connecting the Central Valley to California
The electrified high-speed rail line between Merced and Bakersfield is the first building block of the statewide system. This 171-mile line will offer the nation’s first true electrified high-speed rail service.

High-Speed Rail: Creating Jobs
California’s high-speed rail program is putting people to work. The number of employment opportunities continues to increase as the program expands.
The Community Benefits Agreement (CBA) helps small businesses and job seekers who are interested in working on the high-speed rail program. The policy removes barriers and assists small businesses and potential employees with finding and obtaining construction contracts, jobs and training.
California’s policies set a national tone on environmental issues. The goal is to deliver the greenest infrastructure project in the nation, both in construction and operations, and to honor California’s culture of environmental stewardship.
The Authority has long-held commitments matched with actions that reduce construction and supply chain greenhouse gas emissions while delivering a system that is the backbone for transferring medium and long-distance trips to completely zero-carbon rail.
