NEWS RELEASE: San Joaquin River Viaduct Chosen as Structure Project of the Year by the California Transportation Foundation

FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. – Today, the California High-Speed Rail Authority (Authority) was awarded Structure Project of the Year by the California Transportation Foundation for the completion of the San Joaquin River Viaduct and Pergola. The high-speed rail structure was selected at the 32nd Annual Transportation Awards ceremony recognizing California Transportation Achievement in 2020.

The San Joaquin River Viaduct and Pergola stands out as one of the highlights of infrastructure in California’s Central Valley. Its highly visible arches represent the northern gateway into the city of Fresno and features a pergola that will allow high-speed trains to safely cross over the top of Union Pacific Railroad tracks. As construction continues along the high-speed rail corridor, this structure will remain one of the most recognizable portions of the high-speed rail system.

“The San Joaquin River Viaduct is one of our largest and most visible structures across the alignment and one of the significant achievements to date on the program,” said Central Valley Regional Director, Garth Fernandez. “The completion of this structure was made possible by our dedicated project team at the California High-Speed Rail Authority, Tutor-Perini/Zachry/Parsons, Wong-Harris Joint-Venture, WSP USA, and by our labor force who dedicated thousands of hours in the field.”

This project is part of Construction Package 1, the 32-mile segment of high-speed rail between Avenue 19 in Madera County to East American Avenue in Fresno County.

Currently 119 miles of the nations first high-speed rail system are underway in the Central Valley, with 35 active construction sites. For more information about construction progress please visit www.buildhsr.com.
