NEWS RELEASE: California High-Speed Rail Releases December Construction Update

December Construction UpdateFRESNO, Calif. –Today, the California High-Speed Rail Authority (Authority) released its December 2020 Construction Update highlighting ongoing work along the high-speed rail project and celebrating the creation of more than 5,000 construction jobs since the start of construction in the Central Valley.

“During a year of uncertainty, and Californians coping with a worldwide pandemic, the Authority is proud to continue increasing the number of well-paying construction jobs for men and women building the nation’s first high-speed rail system,” said Authority Chairman Tom Richards. “There is no question that high-speed rail is happening in California and all of us at the Authority look forward to its continued progress in the new year.”

Along with this latest Construction Update the Authority is also releasing a new 2020 Construction Update Video looking back at the progress made in the Central Valley during an unprecedented year. Among the highlights: five projects completed in the last six months.

2020 Construction Update

The Authority currently has 119 miles under construction within three construction packages. Design-build contractors Tutor-Perini/Zachry/Parsons, Dragados-Flatiron/Joint Venture, and California Rail Builders have 35 active construction sites with more expected to open in the coming months. This year, the Authority celebrated the completion of five high-speed rail structures throughout Madera, Fresno, and Kern counties.
