Watch for Truck Hauling on State Route 43 in Kings County

KINGS COUNTY, Calif. – The California High-Speed Rail Authority (Authority) and the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) want to remind the public to use caution and avoid passing heavy trucks on State Route 43 (SR 43), as construction for high-speed rail and local harvest season is in full swing. Drivers should plan accordingly, and please add at least 20 extra minutes to your drive-time while using the busy two-lane highway.
Heavy vehicles hauling fill-dirt for high-speed rail construction are traveling from 8th Avenue and heading north on SR 43. They exit at both Flint and Fargo avenues to reach their destination at 7 ½ Avenue, just east of the highway. Both Flint and Fargo avenues also have only two lanes and it can be hazardous to pass one of the 49 trucks that are traveling the route every hour, hauling approximately 56,000 cubic yards of fill-dirt per day. Peak traffic times are at 6:30 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.
To emphasize the importance of safety during this operation, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) will be patrolling the area enforcing traffic laws. The CHP reminds the public to be alert and watch for construction vehicles and personnel. As always, be extra cautious while traveling through construction areas.
